How long does a central air conditioner last?

Most central air conditioners last roughly 10 to 15 years with regular maintenance. Climate, usage, installation quality and upkeep all affect lifespan.

Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?

What is SEER2?

SEER2 is the current federal rating for air conditioner and heat pump cooling efficiency, introduced in 2023. A higher SEER2 rating means the system uses less electricity to deliver the same cooling.

Is a ductless mini split better than central air?

It depends on your home. Central air is a great fit when you already have good ductwork. A ductless mini split is often better for homes without ducts, additions and rooms that never stay comfortable, and it heats as well as cools.

Should I get a heat pump instead of an air conditioner?

Often, yes. A heat pump cools just like an air conditioner and also heats your home efficiently, and qualifying systems may earn Mass Save or NHSaves rebates. We’ll help you compare both options for your home.

Are there rebates for a new air conditioner?
